Solr Merchandising Tool

Solr is  the best in class enterprise search engine, widely used, standard-ed,proven, highly scalable and an open source enterprise search framework lucene java search library for  text indexing and search.

All the configurations of Solr  are managed by files with in it's core or collection. Solr is more powerful to adopt business needs and  extensible  to support customizations but there are no merchandising tools offered from Solr community to manage search configurations such as synonyms,protwords,keyword redirects,page layout etc. 

Oracle Endeca offers product called Experience Manager, is a single, flexible solution that enables non-technical business users to create, deliver, and manage content-rich, cross-channel customer experiences. Non-technical users can control how, where, when, and what type of content is presented in response to any search, category selection, or facet refinement.

Oracle Endeca Work bench offers merchandising but there are few limitations in Endeca 11.1 also.

• “Content Items”,”Dynamic Pages”,”Keyword Redirects”, “Thesaurus”, “Automatic Phrasing” are globally managed in Endeca Workbench .
• There is no version control on above .Merchants can’t have their own draft versions.
• Workflow is not available to Edit,Review and Publish content.
• There is a chance that working copy of other users changes can be published to Live environment if any of the EAC admin applied “PromoteAuthoringToLive” script.
• Difficult to identify the triggered “Content Items”,”Dynamic Pages” when data is growing. 
• No Search functionality enabled on “Content Items”,”Dynamic Pages”. 
• There is no option provided to inactivate search configurations (”Keyword Redirects”, “Thesaurus”, “Automatic Phrasing”).
• No Analytics enabled for Workbench content.

There are some Solr Searchandising  tools available in the market. It's your call to utilize one of those tools or develop custom Implementation of Search Merchandising Tool . Custom implementation will enable better flexibility with any enterprise search engine integrations if you decided to move to different search engine in the future.

Evaluate the Solr  Searchandising tools if the time to market is immediate need with Solr .
